One less window

Look upwhen it’syour turn.

Glance is a small screen that sits by your monitor and keeps an eye on your coding agents. When one needs you, it says so in big type. Nothing to check, nothing to dismiss.

The screen

Two words and a color.

Each state is a short phrase set in 88-pixel type on a 240 × 240 screen. You can read it from across the desk, out of the corner of your eye.

Five minutes without a word. Glance says it doesn’t know, rather than guess.

One request

From hand-off to all set.

1m so faronit.Migrate stagingdatabase
  1. 10:02

    You hand off a task.

Ask Claude Code to migrate the staging database, then get back to your own work. The screen says on it.

  2. 10:14

    It needs you.

The agent wants to run a migration. The screen turns orange: your turn.

  3. 10:14

    It tells you why.

Three seconds later the reason types itself in, so you know what’s waiting before you switch windows.

  4. 10:31

    You approve. It finishes.

You answer in the agent’s own window; Glance never approves anything for you. When the turn ends: all set.

No buttons

It knows when to speak.

The display has no buttons and needs none. It decides what to show the way a good colleague decides when to tap you on the shoulder.

  • The urgent one comes first.

A session that just asked for you, failed or finished pops up by itself, most urgent first. It won’t cut off a request you’re still reading.

  • Six sessions at a glance.

Working sessions rotate every 14 seconds. The dots in the corner count them. Anything beyond six lives in the desktop app.

  • While you were away.

Lock your screen or step out, and the rotation holds still. When you’re back, a short recap tells you what happened.

  • Long titles turn pages.

Conversation titles show as written, in English or Chinese. They page two lines at a time; the type never shrinks.

  • Quiet when there’s nothing.

No agents running? It settles into all quiet, then a calm clock.

  • Honest about the link.

If your computer sleeps or the connection drops for 20 seconds, it says link lost instead of showing old news.

Agents

Works with the agents you already use.

Codex and the Kiro IDE are read from their own local records, with nothing to install. For the rest, Glance adds a small observer hook. It keeps your settings, backs them up, and comes off with one command.

Connect your agents
$ glance install-hooks claude gemini kiro
✓ claude observer hook added, backup kept
✓ gemini observer hook added, backup kept
✓ kiro glance agent set as default

# Not an agent? Anything that runs a command can report in.
$ glance emit --source build --state done \
--project 'Release build' --action 'Ready for review'

Glance only watches. It never replies, approves, or blocks a tool call.

Private by design

Your code stays on your computer.

No account, no cloud. The bridge on your computer reads status, keeps only what the screen needs, and sends it straight to the display.

Display

240 × 240

Four ways to the screen. It uses the first one that works.

  1. 01

    USB cable

Plugged in, it needs no Wi-Fi at all.

  2. 02

    Wi-Fi

On your network, through a tiny broker built into the bridge.

  3. 03

    Bluetooth

    On ESP32-C3 displays, once paired.

  4. 04

    Internet relay

Optional and self-hosted. Sealed before upload, so the relay only stores ciphertext.

  • What reaches the screen

Project name, conversation title, state, step count, and short public summaries such as a question or an error. Titles are capped at 96 bytes, reasons at 160.

  • What never does

Your code, diffs, raw commands, tool output and hidden reasoning. Common credential formats are redacted before anything leaves the agent.

  • Sealed on the way

Over USB, Bluetooth and the default Wi-Fi link, every snapshot is encrypted with ChaCha20-Poly1305 and acknowledged by the display. Pairing uses a six-digit code on the screen.

The desktop app

The full story lives on your computer.

The Glance app shows every session, the complete reason behind each request, and all your displays. Pair a display, update its firmware and connect your agents from one place. Close the window and it stays in the menu bar or the notification area.

Questions

Good to know.

Does Glance approve or answer anything for me?

No. It only shows status. Approvals and answers always happen in the agent’s own window, and Glance never changes approval settings.

Do I need an account or a cloud service?

No. The display talks to your computer over USB, your local network or Bluetooth. An internet relay is optional, self-hosted, and only ever sees encrypted data.

Which computers does it work with?

The Glance app runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 12 or later, and on Windows 10 and 11 (x64). Underneath it is a small command-line bridge, glance, written in Rust.

What happens when my computer sleeps?

The display notices the missing heartbeat after 20 seconds and shows link lost. It reconnects by itself when the computer wakes.

What if I run more than six sessions?

The screen keeps the six that matter most and rotates through them. Everything else stays visible in the desktop app.

Can my own scripts use it?

Yes. glance emit sends any state from the command line, so builds, deploys and long jobs can show up next to your agents.
